"Right in The Middle of Her Forehead"
A series of work that displays my personal experiences growing up with curly hair in a prominently white community. I share my journey of learning to embracing my curly hair. I pay tribute to the people that have taught me to embrace the beauty of curly hair and the Black Identity, through the assortment of various materials capturing the texture of hair.
Material used: cardboard, "Jet" magazines prints, cotton, African print fabric, acrylic paint, oil paint, chalk pastels, metal foil, yard, felt, vinyl records , tissue paper, sculpty, colored pencils, paint markers
Animation
Stop motion animation made from cutout drawings and my personal belongings. Entering another realm through imagination. I explore the joy within movment and world building.
Textile Design
I work with airbrush to create orginal designs on t-shirts. The work below is apart of my choregraphy “Metaphysical” in which I designed colorful facial express on t-shirts to sybmolizes overwhelming thoughts and feelings.
Costume Design for comisioned for “KinFOLK” by Dominic Roberts. His work includes music from Kendrick Lamar’s “To Pimp A Butterfly” alongside reslience moment and stepping patterns to showcase the strength in ones identity. The butterfly designed on the shirt represents growth and freedom.
